The Green Collar Community

Think Outside the Boss Workshop! Saturday, 11/17, 11am-2:30pm, at Tassafaronga

GC3 is working with the Sustainable Economies Law Center and Communities for a Better Environment to put on a free legal workshop for community-based cooperative businesses on Saturday, 11/17!

Register for the workshop!

If you’re interested in creating a worker-owned business in your community or if you are a non-profit organization interested in incubating worker-owned businesses, come to the Think Outside the Boss Workshop on Saturday, November 17, from 11am to 2:30pm, at Tassafaronga Recreation Center (975 85th Ave., Oakland, 94621).

This free workshop will empower you to navigate the laws around starting and maintaining a green cooperative business.

Attorneys and law students will give short presentations on legal issues, ranging from the connections between environmental justice, resiliency, and worker-owned business development to creating your own business to employment law. We’ll also help you connect with organizations in the Bay Area, who can provide you with resources and information on:

– What worker-owned businesses are and the advantage of forming one.
– Resources available to help you start your own worker-owned business.
– How to convert a traditional business to a worker-owned business.
– How to run your business democratically and spread ownership and control across a group of people.
– How to raise money from your collective, your community, and even the bank!
– Laws about how to treat your workers.

Want to join? Please RSVP here, or call Kara Alba at (510) 548-4040, ext. 365.

Need legal assistance? We’re also offering free, one-time legal consultations for community-based entrepreneurs! You’ll need to apply for a consultation, so fill out this application form. We will prioritize applications received by Saturday, November 10th.
